Regionally Adapted
Most of our Seeds are NOT bought and traded in large markets. They’re produced by us in the midwest, specifically Missouri and Kentucky. We also sell
seeds which aren’t feasible for us, being a part-time operation, to produce, but which we regularly plant and are highly adapted, such as cabbages/turnips and
when this occurs it will be stated.
Diverse Genetics
We sell native ecotypes and landraces that have been bred specifically for traditional agriculture, in contrast to todays high input row crops
that are better suited to mechanization and require pesticides and herbicides to even yield.
Highly Experienced
We only ship what we grow, so we know what it needs and more importantly, if you are in a similar climate to us, you can be assured our seeds will
do well for you. Our continental climate experiences highs well over 100F and lows below -15F, heavy rain in the spring and limited rain in the fall. Knowing
what plants are adapted for and what conditions they require is crucial for success, and many would-be gardeners give up when their plants die because the person
selling them didn’t explain that it was bound to fail from the start.
For example, if you try to grow the worlds largest bamboo, it will freeze the first winter.
If you plant a giant sequoia thinking you’ll have a 300ft tree, no you won’t, it’s too dry, not misty enough to keep the tree alive, and even if you were running
giant fog machines to keep it irrigated, the wind will knock it down once it surpasses the tree line. You’re not going to get large bulbed onions from seed.
You’re not going to get insane yields of peas. This isn’t europe. If you go farther south, some of these things work in the winter months, and if you go farther
north they work in the summer, but cool season plants here have a time crunch because the temperature swings quicker than other parts of the world. That’s not to
say it certainly won’t work. Trying exotic things is fun. But your expectations must be tempered, and it’ll take a little more work.
