Native chenopodium was once widely consumed by the native Americans. Closely related to quinoa, the greens are one of the first plants harvested in the spring.
May contain high levels of oxalates so leaves should be boiled well before consumption
When young this is my favorite wild green but it becomes less palatable with age
Once you sow this plant, it’ll reseed and persist in that spot

I usually toss the seed on the ground haphazardly because it’s bound to do well in it’s native land. I’m working towards developing a variety that sprouts first year, but I think I’m a long way off from anything interesting
