Opuntia humifusa
This is a low growing creeping cactus native to microclimates in the Appalachians where there is very thin soil and full sun. They grow well in gravel even with 50in of rain annually.
Fruits are edible and delicious. Pads are also eaten. This opuntia is nearly completely spineless, and at least these particular fruits do not have bristles.
