Osage orange (Maclura pomifera)

Osage orange or hedge apple, is a native tree to the central United states. This specimen is our own from wild seed in Missouri.

The wood has historically been prized for bowmaking and fence posts. Incredibly hard. The seeds are edible and quite good, similar to sunflower seed, although hard to harvest in quantity and somewhat tough.

The large fruit are a curiosity, but osage orange is often used as rootstock for Mandarin melon berry

Seed is out of stock till fall/winter

I may have seedlings available, inquiries always welcome
